Cottage Inn

I interviewed my parents for this documentary style one minute piece. I had them tell me the story about how they met in October of 1979. I cut each of their story and edited it together to make one continuous story. Overall, I don’t hate it. There is a lot that I wish I could change, however.

For starters, like most of the projects I’ve done for this class, I wish that I could have shot with an HD camera instead of my MacBook, especially since my Macbook is older. So, I had to edit in SD which clearly makes the picture not look as great. Next is the audio issues. It obviously sounds very jumpy and cut, but I do like that for this particular piece but I know that I could have made it smoother had I edited with Final Cut. With the beginning title page, the one with the yellow writing flying across the screen – I wanted to slow down the words but I couldn’t figure out how too. I don’t think it is possible. But i liked the way that looked and added some degree of humor in the piece. I think at least. Lighting was also a pain in the neck. If i had a lighting kit I would have been able to use the 3 point lighting technique. I tired with what I had – however it’s not the best. I would also change the location too. The music I chose to use in the beginning was free, legal and directly from IMovie. I don’t love it but it works.

Lastly, my parent’s clearly look tired and they don’t look happy. At the end my dad makes a weird face when he said that they are living “happily ever after”. He is not convincing what-so-ever. I should have shot this earlier in the day not at 1030 on a Sunday Night. I definitely learned that the hard way.

Critique of grilled cheese video

By Casey Coleman

If I could remake my video I would have held my iphone differently so I would have had a wider screen. Some of the angles are a little shaky but I was the only one filming. I think my video was well thought out. I also like my music choice but I would have found one that fit my video better time wise.

I think all the instructions are clear and are simple to follow. I tried to focus on the task at hand which was to make the best grilled cheese and keep it under a minute. I think I did well with executing the time frame and shaving the video down.

If I were to redo it I would focus more on getting more camera angles, cleaner, and smoother shots. I think I edited it well so that it flows nicely. I think my work could just use some fine tuning but I think overall for a first project it went well. I can only improve from here.
