Lover’s Journey

This video is different from the first pitch I created. In my original pitch, different people would be filmed telling different parts of a story, which would then be edited together. However, I came up with a new idea that I thought would work out better.

The new idea is a story told from a first person point of view through the camera. It is the story of a “lover” going on a journey through the forest and eventually coming upon a mountain with a breathtaking view and rocks with previous lovers’ writing on them.

During the filming I tried to shake the camera ever so slightly so that it would appear that the camera was a person walking and looking around the forest. Editing it was kind of tough, because it was hard picking which clips would work best, because they had to lead into the next clip smoothly.

I used two different pieces of royalty free music to change the mood of the piece. The first part was supposed to feel somber and mysterious, while the second part was supposed to feel somewhat upbeat after the “lover” discovered the top of the mountain.

60 Second Story Pitch

Being a Music Major

This video definitely went better than my previous video. The quality was much better because I used an actual camera and not my computer’s camera. Also, I was able to find a better room with good lighting. The only problem I had was with the audio.

The audio was tough because I didn’t have any separate audio equipment like a microphone. I had to rely on the microphone in the camera, which wasn’t too bad. I ended up boosting the audio because it was really quiet at times. The room had a bit of an echo to it as well, and for some reason there was an unexplained noise toward the end of the video.

The ability to go over 60 seconds was very nice during this peace. I didn’t have to feel too constrained in what I could and could not include. I decided it would be better to put my questions in words due to the audio. Also, I found I could compose a better shot of just someone answering questions than I could of me asking them as well.

How To Assemble An Alto Saxophone

This was the first video I have ever made for YouTube/the internet. It didn’t go very well as far as quality. I used the camera on my laptop, which I thought would look better. Also, the audio ended up being too low, so I had to boost it during editing.

I chose to do my video on how to assemble a saxophone because it is one of the things I know how to do very well, and it doesn’t take too long to do or demonstrate. My first attempt was lost on my hard drive, so I had to record and edit my piece a second time.

If I were to do this again I would record it on an actual camera which would give me much better video quality and audio. Also, I would use Final Cut rather than iMovie because I know Final Cut better and I am more comfortable with it.

MTV walking with Superman Henry Cavill

Title: MTV walking with Superman Henry Cavill
Producer: robertmorrison2002
Source: YouTube
Duration: 6:03
Genre: Entertainment, Interview
Social Media Impact: 63,592 views, 130 “likes”

Why I chose this video:
I chose this video because the interview was done in a different format than “normal” interviews. That is, rather than an interviewer sitting down with the guest, they are walking in this interview, which is a little more entertaining than a sit down interview. Also, the area they are walking around has a big relationship to what they are talking about and is visually stunning to look at. The style of the interview is a lot more conversational because of the way they are just nonchalantly walking around, instead of the normal rigid question and answer model. Being a Superman fan myself, I enjoyed the music in the background, which was the perfect volume.

How to Make a Paper Ninja Star (Shuriken) – Origami

Title: How to Make a Paper Ninja Star (Shuriken) – Origami
Producer: RobH0629
Source: YouTube
Duration: 8:20
Genre: Howto & Style
Social Media Impact: 7,164,120 views, 22,415 “likes”

Why I chose this video:
I chose this video because it showed how to create a paper throwing star out of a just a piece of printer paper, but it did it in a way that was easy to follow and to comprehend. There was nothing in the video to distract you from the process, and it was very clearly demonstrated and explained. I found it very interesting that, to explain the hardest part of the fold, the producer used closing the folds on a box as a relevant and simple comparison. It is also a relatively fast explanation with nothing extra, exactly what someone would want from an internet how to video.
